Kim is a dual-qualified lawyer practising as a barrister in Hong Kong and a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand. He was admitted to the Bar in New Zealand in 2011 and in Hong Kong in 2016. Kim is an experienced trial lawyer with a broad practice that includes criminal and civil disputes, as well as matters related to public law. He has appeared before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, as well as the Privy Council.
Prior to joining K3 Legal, Kim was based in Hong Kong at Bernacchi Chambers and regularly instructed on a wide variety of criminal, civil, and public law cases, as well as on appellate cases. In criminal instructions, Kim has experience across the full spectrum of offences, including complex commercial crime, offences against persons, dangerous drugs, sexual offences, traffic, and immigration offences. His civil practice covers matters relating to contract, intellectual property, medico-legal cases, and tort. Kim has also taken out judicial review applications relating to the failure to prosecute, and decisions made by various statutory bodies.
His expertise lies in animal law and its intersection with criminal, civil, and public law. He is the Director and Founder of the Hong Kong Animal Law and Protection Organisation (HKALPO), which regularly advocates for better and stronger animal welfare legislation in Hong Kong.
