James has over twenty years' experience as a specialist in civil and commercial litigation and insolvency matters. Prior to joining K3 Legal, where he heads the civil and commercial litigation practice area, James was a partner of a boutique corporate and commercial law firm, having been trained at one of New Zealand's large law firms.

James provides technically excellent advice that is practical and commercial. With degrees in law and management studies, majoring in accounting, James quickly grasps the financial aspects of commercial disputes. He is known for being pragmatic, commercial, and creative when seeking to resolve disputes and is well-versed in mediation and other forms of ADR (alternative dispute resolution).
He acts for receivers, liquidators and commercial creditors on both contentious and non-contentious insolvency and enforcement issues. James regularly advises on shareholder disputes, director duties and urgent injunctive relief. His broader commercial litigation experience has encompassed property-related disputes, construction matters, and intellectual property disputes. James appears regularly in the High Court and has appeared in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
James has developed strong relationships with the independent bar and is regularly called upon as an instructing solicitor on reverse briefs from King's Counsel and other senior barristers in complex commercial cases.
